Name: Mary Magdalene Maxey Hubbell
Description: In this head-and-shoulder cabinet card portrait, Mary Magdalene Maxey Hubbell is dressed in a dark blouse with a down-turned collar which had notches at the shoulder blades. At the center of her collar is a wide ribbon pinned in the center with a round brooch. Around her neck is a white, pleated ruff. Her dark hair is center-parted and combed to the back of her head. She wears a braid crown which is topped with a perforated hair ornament.
Biographical Note:
Family Affiliation: Mary Magdalene Maxey Hubbell was the mother of Petaluma doctor, Ruth Philena Hubbell Huffman (1862-1949), the wife of Jonathan Foster Hubbell (1830-1898), and the daughter-in-law to Philena Buck Hubbell (1808-1897).

Description, back: Handwritten along the top edge in blue ink is, “Mary Magdalene Maxey Hubbell” and “Born 1834”. Below this is, “1874 or 1875”. Along the bottom edge is handwritten in cursive in pencil, “Property of Dollie (?) Hubbell”.
Date: 1874 or 1875 per the inscription on the back side of the portrait.
Condition: Both sides of this card are heavily soiled and stained, and four edges have been trimmed.
