THE PHOTOGRAPHER/ PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO:
THE NOBLE & FELL’S SUNBEAM GALLERY was operated by Skelton Stanford Nobel and Albert Webster Fell between December 1873 and May 1874. It was located in Petaluma’s downtown at 649 Main Street. Name: Unidentified
Description: This young woman tilts her chin down and looks off to her left. Her dark hair is disheveled but center-parted and the front side sections are pulled up to the back of her head. There is a wisp of short hair beside her right ear from which hangs a large long drop earring. She wears a dark, front-buttoned blouse with a ruffled yoke. Tied tight to her neck is a plain white scarf and atop it hangs a single chain containing two charms.

Description, front: This portrait is framed within a vertical oval.
Description, back: In the top right corner, handwritten in pencil is a question mark. In the center is the Gallery’s imprint. It reads: Noble & Fell’s Sunbeam Gallery, Main St., Petaluma, Next door to Wickersham & Co’s Bank.
Date: December 1873 to May 1874
Condition: This carte de visite has many small black spots, and the left vertical edge is stained.
